Our School Council had an exciting and informative visit to Douglas City Hall, where we were given the opportunity to hold our council meeting in the council chamber. It was a fantastic experience to sit in the same room where important decisions for the city are discussed and made.
During our visit, we met the Deputy Mayor, who spoke to us about her role within the local community and answered some of our questions about how local government works. It was interesting to learn about the responsibilities involved in helping to run the city and support its residents.
After our meeting, we enjoyed some juice and biscuits while chatting about what we had learned. The visit gave us a valuable insight into democracy and decision-making and helped us understand how young people can have a voice in their community.
We would like to thank the Deputy Mayor and everyone at Douglas City Hall for making us feel so welcome and for providing us with such a memorable experience.
