Spring 2
Week 5
23rd March - 27th March
This week, after all of our planning, we completed our investigation into reflective materials. We tested a wide range of materials from tin foil to our shoes! Some of the results were very surprising but most importantly, we all reflected on what could be done differently next time to make the investigation even better. In literacy, we continued to explore features of a suspense tale and this crossed over into our topic lesson where we used GarageBand to create a suspenseful soundtrack to go with our 'The Lost Submarine' story. The groups with the best soundtracks were chosen to share their performances with the class, and with the lights turned out, they had all of our hearts beating faster!
Week 4
16th March - 20th March
We started planning our own science experiments this week, thinking of how to set up an investigation to see which materials reflect light the most. We also built on our existing map work knowledge and learnt all about OS map symbols and used these to create our own treasure maps. We used the symbols along with coordinates, a scale and the points of a compass to direct our friends to the treasure.
Week 3
9th March - 13th March
This week we started our new literacy unit all about Suspense Stories! We started to become familiar with our model text, 'The Lost Submarine' and had fun creating our own story boards.
Week 2
2nd March - 6th March
What a busy week we've had! Not only was it World Book Day, we also had our Off by Heart competition. Shivanth and Nyla represented Year 3 from Vallajeelt (as voted for by their class mates) and they both gave fantastic performances of the poem 'Our Teacher Likes Minecraft'. We were also kept busy with our new STEAM unit, Light and Shadow. As the sun made its first appearance in what felt like forever, we took some chalk outside and started to explore how shadows are made.
Week 1
23rd February - 27th February
We kicked off this half term researching our new topic, Under the Sea! Once we had made fact files about our favourite sea creatures, we started turning our attention to art work and explored tints and tones that were similar to the colours of the sea. We created a background using these tints and tones, then cut out the silhouette of a sea creature and placed it on top to create our beautiful display.

Spring 1
Week 6
9th February - 13th February
We ended our Endangered and Extinct topic with a trip to the Wildlife Park to learn more about why animals become endangered and what we can do to help them. Siobhan let us take a look at some of the objects people have killed animals to create and we all agreed that, although some of them were lovely, they weren't worth taking a life for.
Week 5
2nd February - 6th February
On Friday, we used clay to create some fossil like sculptures and this week, we got to appreciate them once they had dried and solidified! We also had a great time welcoming parents into our classroom to show them all of the fantastic things we've done this year and asked them to reflect on our work with us to identify 2 stars and a wish.
Week 4
26th January - 30th January
This week was all about completing our Information Text Unit. We chose between writing an information text about dinosaurs or rocks and we gathered some really interesting facts! We used our toolkits that we made ourselves on the laptops as a checklist and created some fantastic pieces of work! Next week, we are starting our unit all about writing letters.
Week 3
19th January - 23rd January
This week we learned all about sketching pencils and what the different numbers and letters mean. Once we had experimented with different tones and techniques, we created our own sketches of endangered animals based on an existing sketch. Look how fantastic our display board looks!
Week 2
12th January - 16th January
Our science unit this term is all about rocks and soils. After investigating real rock samples and thinking of scientific adjectives we could use to describe their properties, we worked in teams to match pictures of rocks with the most accurate description.
Week 1
5th January - 9th January
After the Christmas break (and a surprise snow day!), we were excited to return to school and begin our new topic: Endangered and Extinct Animals. We discussed what we knew already about the subject and what we hoped to find out throughout this half term.
Autumn 2
Week 7
15th December - 19 December
What a week! I’m so proud of the children. Their singing in the church and their panto performances were outstanding. We finished the term with some festive science, using a sound meter to test materials and find the best sound insulator Father Christmas could use on his boots so he won’t wake anyone on Christmas Eve.
Week 6
8th December - 12th December
This week we completed our STEAM project. Our challenge was to create a product that would help an explorer on their expedition. We used the 6 step engineering process to design, plan and create our products and then we reflected on what went well and what we could improve next time. The classroom was not the tidiest when we'd finished but we must have tidied up well, as this week, we won the tidiest classroom award!
Week 5
1st December - 5th December
It’s been another busy week for 3C! We kicked things off with a rainy adventure in the forest, which everyone really enjoyed. The rest of the week has been full of panto practice and lots of singing as we get ready for our Christmas performances. On Friday, we wrapped things up by playing Subtraction Pairs to help us practise our addition and subtraction skills. Great job, 3C!
Week 4
24th November - 28th November
We had an absolute blast at our first Forest session this week! After being reminded of the boundaries, we played a couple of games of Hide and Seek before we were left to our own devices to explore the forest.
Week 3
17th November - 21st November
This week has been a busy one with lots of learning achievements! We really put ourselves into the minds of some famous explorers by plotting out Ernest Shackleton's expedition on a map using coordinates and also pretending to be famous explorers being interviewed by the rest of the class.
Week 2
10th November - 14th November
Monday was World Science Day so to mark the occasion, we decided to fill the week with science! This week, we created a display along with the Year 3's from St Thomas' for Meadow Hall. We chose to showcase all of our knowledge of a famous scientist of places and people, Ibn Battuta.
Week 1
3rd November - 7th November 2025
We've all settled back in really well after a great half term break. This week we introduced our new topic, Explorers. We all had to guess what the topic was going to be by investigating a tent filled with mysterious items, only 2 of us guessed correctly! This week also marked the opening of our new STEAM station activity, all about exploring materials.
Autumn 1
Week 8
20th October - 26th October 2025
We made it to the last week of term! Whilst we rewarded ourselves for all of the great work we've done over this half term (by watching a Hercules VHS!), we completed some Ancient Greek inspired Mosaics.

We ended the week with Show & Tell where we were treated to a show created by lots of the Year 3 girls.

Week 7
13th October - 19th October 2025
We were excited to welcome Rock Kids to our school this week. Their visit was full of music, and fun as they led lots of energetic activities that inspired creativity, confidence, and teamwork. Everyone had a great time learning, laughing, and rocking out together! Our very own Marnie even won a dance battle!
Week 6
6th October - 10th October 2025
Our topic lessons have had an ICT focus this week and we've started to bring our knowledge of Ancient Greek gods together to create our own class Top Trumps cards. This activity has allowed us to learn a range of skills including how to:
★ To format text, changing fonts, sizes of fonts, etc.
★ To combine text with images / drawings / shapes
★ To use shift key rather than caps lock to access capitals and shift characters.
★ To select colours from a palette
★ To search the web effectively for suitable images to use in our work.
★ To duplicate objects/images
Week 5
29th September - 3rd October 2025
This week we have been busy writing our 'beat the monster' stories where we pulled all of our story plans, mythical creature creations and subordinating conjunction knowledge together.
Week 4
22nd - 26th September 2025
We have been recreating temples inspired by the ancient greeks in our STEAM Station for 3 weeks now and this week, we all had a go at creating a 3D paper straw temple. This project put our measuring and symmetry skills to the test and it was quite messy as it required a lot of glue.
Week 3
15th - 19th September 2025
This week we've been learning even more about the Ancient Greeks and the famous story of Perseus and Medusa. After learning all about subordinating conjunctions, we split up into groups and played a dice game where we picked a simple Ancient Greek sentence and rolled to choose which subordinating conjunction we would use to expand these sentences. Some of the complex sentences we created turned out to be rather interesting!
Week 2
8th - 12th September 2025
What a fantastic start to the year we've had getting to know each other! Whilst we have been building our relationships, we have also been working extremely hard and getting back into the swing of things.
In science, we are learning all about nutrition, digestion and healthy living. We filled 2 small jugs with lukewarm water and created a visual representation of the stomach breaking down food into energy. We discovered that sugar dissolved more quickly than the flapjack which helps us to remember that sugary foods are broken down by our bodies much faster than more complex foods like flapjacks, giving us a quick burst of energy but not keeping us full for very long.
We are also becoming familiar with our classroom and have been exploring the new STEAM station, where we can investigate, create, and experiment with different ideas. This half term, the challenge is to create a model structure inspired by the Ancient Greeks.
