Emotion coaching has been an area of research by American psychologist John Gottman and is an approach that helps children, and adults, recognise big feelings and appropriate responses on how to deal with them. Inappropriate behaviours are not accepted but dealt with in a more productive manner which, in the long term, will lead to self-regulation.
