On Saturday 29th July, two teams took part in the Millennium Football Tournament at Union Mills Football Club. It was a warm day, however a bit damp.
Vallajeelt FC were in group C and got off to a good start with a 1-0. They were, however, in a very tough group and they struggled to win any of the other games. They stayed in good spirit and worked well as a team, never giving up. Our two goalkeepers made some amazing saves and the team should be very proud of their efforts, enthusiasm and team work throughout the tournament.
Vallajeelt United were in group A and it took a few games for this team to find their feet and believe in themselves. All the teams in this group were very evenly matched which led to some close games. After losing two games and drawing one, United got their first win! This built up their confidence and they won three games in a row with a glimmer of hope to qualify we went in to our last game which was against a very strong Onchan side. Unfortunately, we fell to our third defeat which meant we didn’t qualify for the quarter finals and finished 4th in the group. Although I know the team were disappointed to end this way, they all need to be very proud of themselves! They grew as a team throughout the tournament and this was amazing to watch. They should all hold their heads up high and remember they gave it their all!
Thank you to all the parents on the day, cheering all the children on and well done to all who took part.
