On Tuesday 14th November, a team of children from years 5 & 6 took part in the Primary School’s Badminton Festival at the NSC.
We started in Pool 2 playing against CYB B, Ballacottier Bashers and St. Mary’s Missiles.
The team played extremely well demonstrating some amazing serves and returns and we only lost one point in all fixtures (A maximum of 40 points can be won against each team).
- Against St. Mary’s Missiles we won 10-4, 10-3, 10-2 and 10-3 (40 points)
- Against Ballacottier Bashers we lost 9-10 the won 10-7, 10-5 and 10-4 (39 points)
- Against CYB B we won 10-2, 10-1, 10-4 and 10-7 (40 points)
With these amazing results, we were placed in the 1st Place Pool Play-off against all the other best school teams. These were St. Mary’s Marvels, Ballacottier Bandits, Henry Bloom Noble and Cronk-Y-Berry C. These were much tougher, but they all continued to put in 100% and fight for every point.
- Against CYB C we lost 5-10 then won 10-7, 10-6, 10-8 (35 points)
- Against Ballacottier Bandits we lost 2-10 then won 10-4, 10-7, 10-5 (32 points)
- Against St. Mary’s Marvels we lost 2-10, 4-10, won 10-9, lost 4-10 (20 points)
- Against HBN we won 10-7, lost 8-10, 6-10, then won 10-8 (34 points)
We finished the tournament in 4th place (out of 21 teams) which is an amazing achievement! A big thanks to Mrs Domingo, who runs the after-school club, for preparing the children for the competition. The support from parents was excellent and I’m sure they found it as enjoyable and nerve-racking as I did. Well done all.
