This week in nature Club we became FUNGUS HUNTERS! We didn’t have to go far to find some examples of amazing fungi. We checked the edges of the field and garden because we found out that fungi like moist and mild conditions. We wanted to find Fly Agaric, Dead Man’s Fingers or Brain Fungus but we weren’t lucky this time. It’s a good time of year for fungi in gardens, glens and plantations though, so we’ll keep looking.

We learnt that some fungi are very poisonous and it’s important to wash our hands carefully after being fungus hunters and never, ever to put our fungi finds near our faces or mouths! We also learnt that fungi are neither plant nor animal but are in a “kingdom” of their very own.
