Today, we had the incredible privilege of welcoming The Worshipful the Mayor of Douglas, Councillor Mrs Natalie Byron-Teare, JP, to our school for an assembly.
We found out about the ceremonial Mayoral chains and robes, which The Mayor wears during special occasions and Council Meetings. We learned about the role of The Mace Bearer, a vital figure who carries the Mace, symbolizing authority, at civic and ceremonial events.
During the assembly, we discovered some of the duties of Douglas Council and The Mayor, who work for our community by looking after our beautiful parks and open spaces like Noble’s Park and Summerhill Glen, and organising fantastic events such as the Fireworks Display and the Christmas Lights Ceremony, among many other things.
